Matthias Wilhelm is a clinical cardiologist, researcher, and Associate Professor of Cardiology. He serves as the Medical Director of the Centre for Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital, Switzerland. He completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine and interventional cardiology at the University Hospital of Erlangen, Germany (1999–2007), before leading the Division of Electrophysiology from 2008 to 2009. In 2010, he transitioned to Inselspital Bern, focusing on cardiac rehabilitation and sports cardiology. From 2018 to 2022, he was a board member of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC) and chaired its Education Committee. He currently chairs the EAPC’s Secondary Prevention & Rehabilitation Section and co-chairs the ESC Guidelines on Cardiac Rehabilitation. His current research interests include prehabilitation, rehabilitation, exercise physiology, digital health technologies, and assistive robots.
