Associate Professor Cezar Iliescu

Research interests on cardiovascular complications of novel cancer therapeutics (i.e tyrosine kinase inhibitors, immune checkpoint inhibitors), interventional cardiology procedures in high-risk patients (i.e. thrombocytopenia) and analysis of cancer patient’s cardio-vascular outcomes in national large databases (NIS). Collaborator for numerous phase 1 oncology clinical trials were cardiac monitoring and management are provided during testing of novel (targeted) or traditional (chemotherapy and radiation) cancer treatment. In regard to organizational and collaborative management, the non-traditional path of pursuing surgical training before internal medicine as well as training in different systems placed me at an advantage. Formed in the discipline of surgical training, I was very early exposed to the creativity of the basic science research and after transferring to Houston/TMC privileged to have available all imaginable resources to pursue clinical research.
