Received his medical degree from the University of Tirana, Albania and completed his training in Cardiology in the University Hospital Center, Tirana, Albania. Completed fellowships in Interventional Cardiology at the University of Heidelberg and Technical University of Munich, Germany. Designed and conducted a large number of randomized clinical trials, mostly identifiable by the “ISAR”-acronym. Wrote or contributed to more than 800 original publications. His interests focus is on reperfusion strategies in acute myocardial infarction, evaluation of new device technologies in interventional cardiology, peri-interventional antithrombotic therapy and genetics in cardiovascular medicine. Received Sven-Effert-Award (2009) and the Paul Morawitz Award (2015) from the German Society of Cardiology. He is also the recipient of The ETHICA Award (2014) from the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) and the Andreas Grüntzig Award (2014) (2014) from the ESC.
