Henning Morawietz is Professor and Chief of the Division of Vascular Endothelium and Microcirculation at the University Hospital and Faculty of Medicine of the TU Dresden, Germany. He received his Ph.D. in 1990 and started his research group studying cardiovascular diseases at the Institute of Pathophysiology of the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg in 1994. He worked at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of the University of California, San Francisco 1995-96. He was appointed as Professor of Vascular Endothelium and Microcirculation at the Faculty of Medicine, TU Dresden, Germany, in 2003. He serves as Member of the Council on Basic Cardiovascular Science Board of the European Society of Cardiology, as Secretary General of the European Society for Microcirculation and as Fellow of the American Heart Association. His Division studies the impact of cardiovascular risk factors and pharmacological therapies on endothelial function in experimental models and clinical studies.
