Dr. Guy Salama is a Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, he holds a BS in Physics (1968) from the City College of New York and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1977. Dr. Salama authored over 150 publications and was a Fellow of the Muscular Dystrophy Association from 1979-1980, the recipient of the Steps Towards Independence Award from the Marine Biological Laboratory in 1980, a Research Career Development Award (RCDA) from the NIH and in 1991, the James Shannon Award from the NIH. In 2003, he was first Chairman of the Gordon Research Conference on Cardiac Arrhythmia Mechanisms. Dr. Salama pioneered the use of voltage sensitive dyes in heart and dual mapping of voltage and Ca2+. He has made significant contributions on: Arrhythmia mechanisms, EC coupling, Optical mapping of voltage, Ca2+, K+, and Na+, Genetically encoded probes for Cai, Sex differences in heart and Relaxin as a therapy for AF & HF.
