Sven Poli was introduced to the field of stroke by Werner Hacke in 2006, who was his mentor during his neurology residency, and stroke/neurocritical care fellowship at Heidelberg University, Germany. Since 2013 he is Vice Medical Director of the Dept. of Neurology & Stroke (Ulf Ziemann) at Tübingen University, Germany. He has been local principal investigator of > 60 stroke trials incl. > 35 international multi-center interventional trials. He designed IITs on new cooling technologies, hyperoxygenation in thrombectomy candidates, atrial fibrillation detection and secondary prevention after cryptogenic stroke, thrombolysis in acute central retinal artery occlusion, hemostasis in intracranial hemorrhage, point-of-care coagulation testing in NOAC-treated patients, and others. SP has been (deputy) coordinating investigator of six German and European multi-center trials, which he initiated. He has published > 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
