After graduating in Medicine from the University of São Paulo Medical School in Brazil, he conducted research on gene therapy for the induction of neovascularisation at the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Science, National Institute on Ageing, and National Institutes of Health (USA) for three years. After returning to Brazil, he was appointed Clinical Scientist at the Heart Institute. In 2008, he founded the Refractory Angina Research & Study Group, the first initiative of its kind in Brazil. Since 2012, he has been serving as a Professor of Cardiology at the University of São Paulo Medical School. He has participated as an investigator in several studies focused on chronic coronary syndromes, including the COMBINE Angina Study, V-GOOD, ATPCI, and CLARIFY. According to Google Scholar, he has approximately 3,000 citations and an h-index of 28. He is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. He has been an avid stamp collector since childhood and has a passion for travelling.
