Barry A. Borlaug, M.D., is Professor of Medicine and Chair for Research in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, and William J. and Sharon A. Schoen Professor of Cardiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, USA. Dr. Borlaug is a heart failure specialist and invasive cardiologist. His research interests are focused on the mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of heart failure — particularly HFpEF. His team is pursuing a number of clinical studies examining which pathophysiologic abnormalities that contribute to f heart failure, with a focus on novel treatments. Dr. Borlaug’s lab also conducts clinical trials seeking to identify novel therapies to improve functional status and long-term outcomes in patients with heart failure. His research is funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, the US Department of Defense, and multiple industry trials.
