Niraj Varma trained in medicine at Oxford and Edinburgh University Medical Schools. Following this, he received specialist training in Cambridge University, UK, and then in Cardiac Electrophysiology at Harvard Medical School, Boston USA. In Boston, he undertook a basic science research fellowship. The work from this led to the DM (PhD) from Oxford University, England. Currently Niraj Varma is the Director for Cardiac Pacing and Tachyarrhythmia Devices of the Section of Electrophysiology and Pacing at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, USA, where he has practiced for 17 years, and is Professor of Medicine. Niraj Varma has more than 25 years of experience in ablative therapies and implantation of cardiac electronic devices for which he has led multiple trials. He pioneered remote monitoring of implantable devices, electrocardiographic imaging (ECGI), and CRT algorithms. He contributes regularly to international guideline documents.
