Doctor Iliyana Petrova

Dr Iliyana Petrova graduated from the Medical University of Sofia in 2005. In 2006 she was appointed assistant professor at the Clinical of Cardiology at the National Heart Hospital, Sofia. She was Board Certified as cardiologist in 2012 from the Medical University of Sofia and further licensed as interventional cardiologist in 2013. Dr. Petrova has more than 50 publications in national journals and a number of scientific papers at international congresses. In recent years, her research interests have focused on contrast-induced nephropathy and the use of NGAL as a new biomarkers for early diagnosis of acute kidney injury. She defended her PhD degree on this topic in 2020. Dr. Petrova has written also her own monograph titled "Modern aspects of contrast-induced nephropathy" in the next year. Since 2022 she has been an associate professor at the Cardiology Clinic f and since 2024 she has been the head of the department of cardiology in National Heart Hospital.
