Doctor Balvinder Handa

Dr. Balvinder Handa is a Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, and a Cardiology Registrar at Imperial College London Healthcare NHS Trust. His current research interest and the topic of his PhD is mechanisms of complex arrhythmogenesis in myocardial fibrillation and development of new fibrillation analysis tools. His primary interest is in the role of fibrosis and gap junction modulation in fibrillation. He is undertaking his PhD under the primary supervision of Dr. Fu Siong Ng and co-supervision of Prof. Nicholas Peters. His work on the role of differing patterns of fibrosis on fibrillation mechanisms has shown a spectrum of fibrillation mechanisms and developed the concept of 'electro-phenotype' underlying fibrillation. He was a Young Investigator Award finalist at both the European Heart Rhythm Association congress and Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome Foundation event in 2019.
