Dr. Ben-Aicha obtained her PhD from the University of Barcelona, with her research centered on the influence of hypercholesterolemia on coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction in large-animal models, specifically examining the effects on HDLs. she also worked on the pleiotropic effects of statin treatment, resulting in intellectual property, and numerous publications where she served as a first or co-author. She further investigated the impact of statins on cardiovascular rhythm in Germany. Subsequently, she joined Imperial College London (ICL), supported by the British Heart Foundation (BHF). Recognized for her contributions, she was granted the prestigious Centre of Excellence Fellowship by the BHF, advancing to become a transition research fellow. Her main focus lies in atherosclerosis prevention, with a particular interest in the interaction between human-derived nanoparticles, macrophages and immune cells in pre-clinical and clinical settings, aiming for therapeutics.
