Living and working in Galway, Ireland, Emer registered as an RGN in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin (2000), and has 25 years of experience in the field of cardiovascular nursing. Her specialist qualifications include; H.Dip Coronary Care Nursing (R.C.S.I); MSc Cardiac Rehabilitation (T.C.D) and a Pg certificate in nurse /midwife prescribing from the University of Galway. Working in heart failure since 2012, she currently practices as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, leading out on a nurse-led structured post discharge heart failure program in Galway University Hospitals. Emer is also the nurse lead of the West of Ireland Heart Failure and Palliative Care Forum and co-investigator on the PAIR-HF study. Special areas of interest include patient and nurse education, heart failure awareness initiatives, cardiac amyloidosis and the integration of palliative approaches in the management of advanced heart failure. Emer is the current president of the Irish Association of Heart Failure Nurses (2025)
