Robert Byrne is Director of Cardiology and Professor of Cardiovascular Research at Mater Private Network and RCSI University, Dublin, Ireland. He graduated from medical school at University College Dublin, Ireland and completed his PhD in Medical Life Science and Technology at Technische Universität Munich, Germany. Research awards received include the ESC Atherothrombosis Research Fellowship (2008), the TCT Thomas J. Linnemeier Young Investigator Award (2009) and the Andreas Grüntzig Research Prize of the German Cardiac Society (2016). His main research interests include antithrombotic therapy, DES, drug-coated balloon therapy, OCT imaging, coronary restenosis and medical device regulatory affairs. He is principal investigator or steering committee member in several clinical trials. Prof. Byrne is Secretary of EAPCI, Deputy Editor at EuroIntervention, and Member of the ESC Regulatory Affairs Committee. He is a keen road cyclist and speaks English, Irish and German.
