Thierry Pedrazzini is Associate Professor at the University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland. His is currently Director of the Experimental Cardiology Unit in the Division of Cardiology at the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. His research is focused on the molecular and cellular mechanisms that are activated in the heart after injury. His laboratory is particularly interested in the mechanisms of adaptation, which could lead to regeneration in the damaged myocardium. In this context, his laboratory is investigating the role of long noncoding RNAs after myocardial infarction. These molecules are important regulators of epigenetic remodeling and transcription. In particular, a unique class of long noncoding RNAs emerging from enhancer sequences play crucial roles during the response of the heart to stress. Manipulating these enhancer-associated transcripts provides novel approaches to awaken the dormant regenerative potential of the adult mammalian heart.
