Vera A. Bittner, MD, MSPH is Endowed Scholar in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Professor of Medicine and Section Head of General Cardiology, Prevention, and Imaging at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She earned her medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and her MSPH in Epidemiology from UAB. She has held leadership roles in medical education and clinical care and currently serves as Medical Director of the Intermediate Care Cardiovascular Unit. Her research has focused on secondary prevention of ASCVD with a focus on lipid-lowering therapies, cardiac rehabilitation, and heart disease in women. She has conducted federally funded and industry-funded clinical trials for >30 years and has published >300 papers in peer-reviewed journals. She is a past president of the National Lipid Association, senior guest editor for Circulation, and Editor of the ACC Self-Assessment Program.
