Dr. Saksena is Professor of Medicine at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine, and Medical Director of the Electrophysiology Research Foundation. He has been the Departmental Head and Director of the Cardiovascular Institute at Atlantic Health Systems (East) from 1999-2004, and Director of the Arrhythmia & Pacemaker Service . He has also served as the President of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (1997-98) and Chair of its Government Relations Committee. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology. Dr. Saksena has been a pioneer in non-pharmacologic therapies for cardiac arrhythmias. His trainees supervise electrophysiology programs in three continents. He performed the first successful implant of a transvenous defibrillator in 1987, developed early algorithms for antitachycardia pacing and transvenous cardioversion, laser ablation for VT & SVT, dual site atrial pacing, & hybrid Rx for AF.
