Following his undergraduate studies in Medicine, Dr Chattopadhyay obtained his post-graduate degree (MD) in Internal Medicine from University of Calcutta, India. After moving to the UK he trained in Cardiology between 2000 and 2007. His initially undertook research in the application of stress echocardiography and myocardial deformation imaging in heart failure funded by a British Heart Foundation research grant under Prof John Cleland at the University of Hull, UK leading to a research MD. He developed an interest in interventional cardiology and underwent fellowships at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, Wales and Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton, Canada. His further research on the effect of glucose tolerance test on post MI prognostication culminated in a PhD from the University of Warwick, UK. He joined the NHS as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and was appointed a Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Hull. He continues to maintain a keen interest in research.
