Professor Dana Dawson

University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen (United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland)

Member of:

European Society of Cardiology
Heart Failure Association

Professor Dawson graduated Medicine at the University of Iasi. After completing MRCP (Royal College of Physicians, London) she read for a D. Phil in Cardiovascular Medicine at Merton College, University of Oxford. She trained in Cardiology in Edinburgh, London (UK) and at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville (USA). She is a Professor of Cardiology and Consultant Cardiologist at the University of Aberdeen/Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Her research interests include exercise interventions to further mechanistic knowledge of cardio-metabolic health in diabetes and cardiomyopathies. She runs studies investigating beta-blocker benefit in COPD, myocardial protection after anthracycline chemotherapy, mechanisms of weight loss with GLP-1 R agonists. Her team is developing Fast Field-cycling cardiac MRI. She runs mechanistic studies in acute takotsubo cardiomyopathy and is the Chief Investigator of the worlds first randomised controlled trial of therapy after acute takotsubo (EVEREST).
