Nico started his career in 1985 at the Thoraxcenter (department of Cardiology, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, The Netherlands) in the cathlab with some of the pioneers within interventional Cardiology as Professor's P.W. Serruys and de P.J. de Feyter. In 1993 he joined his current department Digital Cardiology of the Thoraxcenter, which he leads. He was involved in the early developments of three-dimensional (3-D) echocardiography, culminating in 1998 with the defense of his PhD thesis - “Quantitative 3-D Echocardiography of the Heart and the Coronary Vessels” under the promotorship of Prof. J.R.T.C Roelandt. His area of interest is Digital Health in Cardiology. Within the ESC he is board member of the Digital Health and the Communications Committees and chair of the EAPCI Innovation and Digital Cardiology Committee. Nico is Editor-in-Chief of the European Heart Journal - Digital Health.
