Paul is Professor of Molecular Epidemiology at University of Glasgow and has a wide range of research interests encompassing biomarkers, lifestyle, and clinical research in the fields of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, metabolism, and healthy ageing. He leads the GlasBRU biomarker research team in Glasgow. His biomarker work includes influential clinical trials such as the DAPA-HF and DiRECT trials, as well as a wide range of observational studies such as UK Biobank and Generation Scotland, and meta-analyses. He has published >300 papers with an H-index of 85. He is a member of FLIER (Future Leaders in Innovation, Enterprise and Research) which is a competitive training award from the Academy of Medical Sciences and is is Associate Editor at Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.
