Professor Joost Lumens, PhD, FESC, leads the Computational Cardiology team at the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM), Maastricht University. He is Deputy Editor of European Heart Journal: Digital Health and past-chairperson of the ESC Working Group on e-Cardiology. His team's research approach typically combines multi-scale computer modeling/simulation techniques with experimental and clinical data to gain mechanistic insight in cardiac diseases and their treatments (e.g. cardiac resynchronization therapy). Importantly, translation of novel mechanistic insights into diagnostic, therapeutic and educational improvement is always pursued. His team is actively working on the development and application of cardiac Digital Twin solutions for fundamental research as well as clinical decision support (in silico patient phenotyping and therapy outcome prediction). His lab is the home of the CircAdapt model of the human heart and circulation (www.circadapt.org).
