Professor Hans Kottkamp

From 2019, Prof. Hans Kottkamp is heading the Department of Electrophysiology at Sana Hospitals Düsseldorf, Germany. From 2006 to 2018, he was the Head of the Department of Electrophysiology at Hirslanden Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland and from 1998 to 2006, Dr. Kottkamp headed the Department of Electrophysiology at the Heart Center Leipzig in Germany. In 2003, Hans Kottkamp was appointed Professor of Medicine of the University of Leipzig. Prof. Kottkamp´s research focuses on all aspects of catheter ablation of arrhythmias and also on the pathophysiology of arrhythmias, especially of atrial fibrillation. In recent years, he has introduced the concept of ”fibrotic atrial cardiomyopathy” (FACM) as the leading course of atrial fibrosis in atrial fibrillations patients, he has established the substrate modification concept of ”box isolation of fibrotic areas” (BIFA), and he has introduced ”multielectrode contact mapping plus ablation with a single catheter” with the Globe array.
