Steven E. Nissen MD is Chairman of the Chief Academic Officer of the Heart and Vascular Institute at the Cleveland Clinic and Professor of Medicine at the Lerner College of Medicine. In 2006-2007 he served as President of the American College of Cardiology. Contributions to scientific literature include >600 journal articles. Dr. Nissen manages C5R Research, an organization at the Cleveland Clinic that partners with industry in conducting clinical trials. He specializes in lipid-metabolic, diabetes and obesity trials, but has directed trials as study chair for clinical trials in multiple areas of cardiovascular medicine. He does not accept honoraria or other compensation from industry to stay completely independent. In 2007, Time Magazine selected Dr. Nissen as one of the world’s 100 most influential people. Beginning in 2015, he was named by Thompson-Reuters as one of the world’s most highly cited physician-scientists.
