Dr. Janneke Wittekoek is a Dutch cardiologist and health scientist, internationally recognized for her pioneering work in cardiovascular health for women. She completed her medical training at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, where she also earned her PhD with a dissertation on familial hypercholesterolemia. Dr. Wittekoek is a leading advocate for recognising sex-specific differences in heart disease. Through her media appearances and publications, she has raised awareness of the challenges faced by female patients.
In 2013, she founded HeartLife Clinics in Utrecht, an outpatient center dedicated to sex-specific cardiovascular care and prevention. She also founded the Head-Heart-Hormone (H3) Network, a multidisciplinary initiative that promotes integrated, personalized care for women by connecting cardiovascular, hormonal, and neuropsychological expertise. The H3 Network recently received funding to develop regional care networks for women throughout the Netherlands.
