Professor Gregory Yh Lip

University of Liverpool, Liverpool (United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland)

Member of:

European Society of Cardiology

Professor Lip, MD, is Price-Evans Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine, at the University of Liverpool, UK – and Director of the Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science at the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. He is also Distinguished Professor at Aalborg University, Denmark. He has a major interest into the epidemiology of atrial fibrillation(AF), as well as the pathophysiology & management of thromboembolism in CVD and stroke. He has been researching stroke and bleeding risk factors, improvements in clinical risk stratification, and care pathways. The CHA2DS2-VASc and HAS-BLED scores - for assessing stroke and bleeding risk, respectively – were first proposed and validated following his research, and are now used in international guidelines. The evidence-based ABC (Atrial fibrillation Better Care) pathway for holistic AF care developed by him is advocated in guidelines globally, reducing adverse outcomes in AF patients.
