João V. Vitola, MD, PhD, MASNC, is a Cardiologist and Nuclear Physician working in Curitiba - Brazil, trained at Vanderbilt University, USA (1991-1996). In 1996 has received the Roentgen research award from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) for his early work to pionner clinical applications of PET. Received a Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo, helping to pioneer hybrid stress (combining vasodilator and exercise). Several publications in nuclear cardiology. In 2004 edited Nuclear Cardiology and correlative imaging (Springer—Verlag – NY). In 2009 co-edited nuclear medicine imaging a teaching file (Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, Philadelphia). Since 2007 has been a consultant for the International Atomic Energy Agency and has taken innumerous missions to promote nuclear cardiology in various countries. His international outreach includes conferences and scientific visits. In 2009 published IAEA study on the worldwide utilization of Nuclear Cardiology.
