Dr. Ian Paterson is a cardiologist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and a professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa since 2022. He is the medical director of UOHI Cardiac Imaging and the Canadian Centre for Rare Cardiac Conditions.
Dr. Paterson received his medical degree from McGill University and completed post-graduate medical training in internal medicine, cardiology, and echocardiography and cardiac MRI. He previously worked at the University of Alberta until 2022 and served as director of residency training in adult cardiology from 2009-2017. He also co-founded the Edmonton Cardio-Oncology Program.
Dr. Paterson’s research interests include cardiovascular imaging in heart failure, cardiomyopathy, cardio-oncology, and post-COVID syndrome. He has published over 200 scientific articles, abstracts, and book chapters, and frequently presents his research regionally, nationally, and internationally.
