Professor Sandra Ortega-Martorell

Prof Ortega-Martorell is a Professor of Data Science, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) expertise and a PhD in Computer Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2012). She leads the Machine Learning Research Group within the Data Science Research Centre at LJMU, which closely integrates and collaborates with the Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science (LCCS) in the UK, led by Prof Lip. Dr Ortega-Martorell has an increasing focus on AI/ML translation to healthcare, targeting problems of international importance, such as ageing, cancer and cardiovascular diseases. She is the leader of a major project in digital twin technology development (€10M EU project TARGET, https://target-horizon.eu/, 2024-2028), which aims to accelerate the development of personalised computational models to assist clinical decision-making and help deliver optimised patient management strategies.
