Ian W. Hägerström is a doctoral researcher and medical student at the University of Helsinki. Since 2022, he has been conducting research at the Minerva Foundation Institute for Medical Research in the Cardiovascular Research Group, focusing on non-coding RNAs in ischemic heart disease and heart failure. His PhD project, explores the role of ncRNAs in myocardial damage, repair, and fibrosis, and integrates bioinformatics and machine learning approaches.
Ian began his medical studies at the University of Helsinki in 2022 and joined the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Research in 2024. He is a native Swedish speaker and fluent in Finnish and English. In his free time, he trains Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
