John Cleland is Professor of Cardiology in the School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health, University of Glasgow.
His main interest is heart failure, extending from epidemiology & prevention, to Phase II-IV trials and guidelines. Particular current interests include myocardial substrate, congestion & inflammation, telemonitoring & theranostics.
He qualified from Glasgow in 1977, completed training at St. Mary's & Hammersmith Hospitals (London) and was subsequently awarded a British Heart Foundation Senior Fellowship in Glasgow 1994. He was appointed Professor of Cardiology at University of Hull 1999-2013 and the National Heart & Lung Institute, Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals, Imperial College London 2013-18. He served as Director of the Robertson Centre for Biostatistics & Clinical Trials unit 2016-2022
He founded the European Journal of Heart Failure. He helped found and was Past-Chair of the ESC Working Group on heart failure and British Society for Heart Failure
