Javier Bermejo, MD, PhD, FESC is Head of the Department of Cardiology of the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón in Madrid, and full Professor of Medicine at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He has devoted his medical career to clinical patient care and cardiovascular imaging. He is also Deputy Director of CIBER-CV (Instituto de Salud Carlos III), the governmental agency for nationwide collaborative research in cardiovascular medicine. Dr. Bermejo has trained in biomedical engineering, including basic biomechanics, computer science, advanced biostatistics, and image processing. He leads a multidisciplinary research team integrated by clinical cardiologists, surgeons, engineers, and physicists. His research has focused on the invasive and noninvasive assessment of cardiac hemodynamics, with special emphasis in valvular heart disease. He also has a longstanding trajectory of mentoring young physician-scientists.
