Being fascinated with Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery since having undergone cardiac surgery himself when being young, Stefan participated in multiple research projects during his study Medicine. During the first years, he spent 4,5 months in San Francisco doing research into the different forms of Cardiac Troponin I present in patients with a myocardial infarction at the University of California, San Francisco. While in medical rotations he started a research project on post-operative pericardial effusion at the Radboud University Medical Centre, a project he is still working on up to today. Currently, he is working as an intern at the department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the St. Antonius hospital in Nieuwegein, The Netherlands.
