Associate Professor Raul Santos

Dr. Santos is a cardiologist and researcher at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo. He is also an associate professor and director of the Lipid Clinic at the Heart Institute (InCor) at the University of São Paulo (USP) Medical School, Brazil. His research interests include lipid metabolism, severe forms of genetic dyslipidemias, particularly familial hypercholesterolemia, novel therapies for dyslipidemias, and imaging in atherosclerosis, with a focus on vascular calcification as a tool to evaluate ASCVD risk. He has published more than 400 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He serves as editor-in-chief of Global Heart and as an associate editor of Atherosclerosis, The Journal of Clinical Lipidology, and the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. Since 2021, he has been recognised as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics. He is a past president of the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS). He speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.
